This ultra-high-field system represents a leap forward in preclinical imaging by combining state-of-the-art MRI and PET in a single, integrated platform — enabling truly simultaneous structural, functional, and molecular imaging with unprecedented detail. It’s a game-changer for neuroscience research and drug development.

What makes this installation so extraordinary?

• It’s the first nanoScan 7T PET/MRI system showcased in the U.S., chosen for the visionary research happening at Northeastern.
• The system enables awake animal fMRI, unlocking functional connectivity mapping in conditions that better reflect the natural brain state — a crucial advancement for translational neuroscience and psychedelic-induced connectivity studies. (Supported by EKAM Imaging’s advanced awake imaging protocols.)
• The PET/MRI combination supports simultaneous acquisition, integrating molecular imaging with ultra-high-resolution anatomy and function — ideal for cutting-edge research into neuropsychiatric disorders, TBI, neurodegeneration and beyond.

A special acknowledgment to Professor Craig Ferris and Praveen Kulkarni whose decades of leadership in neuroscience and awake imaging made this collaboration possible. His work at CTNI has positioned Northeastern as a premier site for preclinical imaging innovation.
